    [news] OpenPLi stops actively supporting Dream Multimedia STB’s

    OpenPLi stops actively supporting Dream Multimedia STB’s

    With the decision of Dream Multimedia to abandon open source for their STB’s, our motivation for dealing with the consequences of that has dwindled.
    This has gotten to the point that we are no longer willing to apply Dream Multimedia specific patches, which is why we do not support their v2 STB hardware.
    Because current OpenPLi users with Dream Multimedia STB’s expect support from us, we feel the need to make our position clear.
    We have decided that:
    - We will stop fixing Dream Multimedia specific bugs for existing DMM boxes;
    - We will not support the “v2″ series of Dream Multimedia STB hardware, like the 7020HDv2 and 800SEv2;
    - We will not support future Dream Multimedia STB hardware they may release;
    The Dream Multimedia hardware currently supported by OpenPLi will remain active in our automated build environment, which means images will be generated and feeds will remain available, until we get to a point that this is no longer possible without intervention. At that point, we will effectively stop with all support.
    Since OpenPLi is open source and available to anyone, feel free to setup your own build environment, and produce images for Dream Multimedia hardware yourself, “Based on OpenPLi”.

    It seems that something is changing in this world of satellite. Is it the final blow over DMM? What do you think?

    There has been a shift of power. DMM have not moved with the times and are paying the price. Overpriced, Under specced and dwindling support.

      totally agreed with Mr. "bokkie" ... in past , sometimes DDM box was the best receivers ...... but they stop upgrading themselves as every thing around upgraded ..... it's must happen action .

        Oh Dear that really only leaves one choice on the market not good for consumers. Why the shift Dmm has always done this. I can see price rises from Vu+

            i think it is a fair clarification from openpli team.

            what is the meaning to keep on tracking a closed source route of dreambox receivers?

                I'm not surprised with this decision of openpli team to stop the support to dmm.

                When Dmm don't support their products with the necessary upgrades to hardware... then is very normal for all users to reject the dreamboxs and finally the biggest team to stop the support with images because dmm do nothing about drivers, nothing about necessary fixes .
                I think this is the end of the dreambox generation.

                  First the news about Dream media going bankrupt or filing for bankruptcy or whatnot and now this. As much as I watch TV, I think even with the older firmware my dm800 will last long enough. The other thing is that there is quite a big community behind DM boxes, we might see some more homecooked unofficial firmwares in the future. I mean my dm800 has already been in the legacy section at PLi so not much has changed for me I guess... It does seem like VU is the better option nowadays if you want a new receiver...
