I think compatibility problem may be from router and dongle, and 3G speed is not a problem, I' tried with 3,6 and 7,2 and no freezes, but latency in very important.

In Italy I use this one AS*S WL-330N3G buyed on Ama*on (about 31 £). It use Usb 5 volt as power, is good for traveller. You can use as 3G router and as repeater, if you need. It support many dongles.
I think the problem are 3g provider.
For example (in Italy, I don't know other country) the best is the biggest national provider, T*M, Thr*e and Voda*one are "blocked" and you have many freeze (also with good signal).
I read in another forum tha sh*ring use about 30 mb for 24 hour, and I think is true.
Another good router, I've at home, is TP-Link TL-MR3220 (about 25 £). You can use it also in camping.

Thanks Roberto for reply and info it does seem there can be many problems between reciever and routers perhaps the best thing to do is to wait as Bokkie says for 4g ,i have plenty time before the summer time again.

Good advice ,i have looked at the above Edimax ones to see if which ones support 3 connect ,also it would need to be one that is compact and able to draw power from the receiver .
I need to think small devices that can run independent from mains supply in a motorhome.
I would need to power the receiver from an inverter ,but i need to try and keep every thing 12 volts for wild camping as van is powered by solar panels.

Another winter project to add to the list ,next summer we will be lying back like cats watching storage wars in the van.

The router you were looking at is from China. Personally I wouldn't buy anything from China on ebay unless you want to buy something you dont need immidiately and the product is not too important. The delivery from China usually takes 11-24 working days to arrive. Another thing is if something goes wrong with it then you will have to send it back to China on your own expenses. I would really find a UK seller which has a good reputation. quick worry free delivery and good customer service.

Edimax seems to be the router best recommended with Spider when using a dongle.

That looks good, but I'd suggest you ask around on spiderbox forums to see what everyone is using. I did a quick ****** and edimax seemds to have been used by a few people.

Right so its got to be a 3 g router to go with my 3 connect dongle.
Iam looking at this one ,it can take power from usb and seems a good price.

As spiderbox is a closed souce linux box therefore it will be difficult to install any third party plug-ins on it. It's firmware will have everything built in like other closed source linux box i.e, openbox and skybox.

there are plug-ins you can get that, allow you plug dongle directly into box

Your Spiderbox will be different to a dm800se and azbox.
I know that there are some plugins on certain images on my vu+ that support this.
Not sure if there are any plugins that'll allow you to plug the dongle straight into your stb or not. Probably best to ask that question in the spiderbox section.
Best bet is a 3g router and dongle.

All these sims are fine if you are using them in the UK only. As soon as you cross the channel and get into Europe you start getting charged per MB which is very expensive.
Vodaphone, O2 and Three mobile has started a new service for Europe travellers to use data roaming for £3 per day (Vodafone), £1.99 per 25 mb (O2) and £5 per day (Three3).
The usual costs are 59.9p per 1mb.
