    Newbie Newbie questions

I currently have a sky satellite package. Sky HD box under the telly in downstairs, basic sky non HD receiver one upstairs.

Want to change over to free receiver based, dreambox or whatever. I dont need recorder facility on the one upstairs but would like to be able to play whats recorded on the main one on it over network if possible.

So if I go for dreambox HD SE with a sata HD downstairs, can someone recommend for me one for upstairs?

Im quite techy (no problem with linux) so is there a "how-to" anywhere which starts off with "So you've just bought a dreambox....". and what to do to configure it to replace my sky boxes?

If these links exist already, fine to point to them, my search skills have deserted me. thanks guys!

I reckon it'd be easier to go with another of the same.
Either Dm or vu+ would be the way to go.
Not sure about Dm, but with vu+ you are able to share content with the receivers from the menu.

It is advertised on Vu+ homepage that a vu+ ultimo + solo are the ultimate and perfect match.
It is exactly what you are looking for. If you have the money, of course

I'm not very experienced But from what I learned, unfortunately I have not found anywhere a step by step guide. The only thing I can recommend is to read in the forum that will surely find everything that you need. however, I would start with a custom image and the extra url and then play with the various settings and plugins available

The spiderbox copuld be a good choice to first start out with as its very user friendly and a good box to learn with.

I would suggest to go for a VU+ (costs from £130) in one room, an openbox costs about £50) in another room and a NAS drive. Vu would record to NAS and you can watch it on openbox via network. If you dont have a wired network upstairs then use the Network plugs!

Hi Thumphy, what i sometimes do is record what i want onto a harddrive. FTP using filezilla or flashfxp the recorded item to my laptop, convert it to divx or whatever type file and watch it on my multimedia player

You could even go for a dm or vu+ downstairs with a htpc connected to the tv upstairs. Then just simply stream over the network.
If you have an old pc lying around, you could give it a try.
