Amos 5 ready for commercial ops

Amos 5 will commence commercial operations tomorrow (January 25), operator Spacecom has confirmed.

Spacecom said Amos 5 was “in great shape and ready to go”.

The satellite’s launch on December 11, 2011 came after some lengthy delays with Globes reporting that Spacecom had reached a deal with satellite manufacturer, Russian Information Satellite Systems (ISI), over fines resulting from the craft’s late delivery. The $200 million (€154m) cost as been reduced by $13.5 million.

Amos 5 has a pan-African C-band and Ku-band payload. It is positioned at 17 degrees East.
