Hi Iam not looking to spend lots of dosh I am quite happy with my spider just interested in Linux and what it can do.Like I said in earlier posts it seems like I was missing something? It may be some time before I get a Linux of some discription depending on what funds allow. Cheers...hi euro, i read recently protek on the way out, i think quote, the older version 9600ip is now dead, ie server not serving that box now, just like whats happening to older spiders, i for one not buying dream yet cos personally there is plenty life in spiders for some time as long as clines an nlines available, happy campers choice if he wants to spend lotta dosh, to learn more

Re: Spider to Dreambox?
Good to hear that mate I have had a Spiderbox for 18mts and though it was easy, their was nothing to do so it made me very lazy so I have dug some of my old boxes out and at the moment playing with an old Dreambox 500s and its all coming back.Leave a comment:

Re: Spider to Dreambox?
Buy one. I bought one the first Dreamboxes that came out hardly any software initialy but it improved rapidly. I like them so much because new plug ins etc are constantly being developed by enthusiasts and I think as I did you will learn very quickly. I would realy like the top of the range but cant afford it right now but I am thinking about a clone.Leave a comment:

Re: Spider to Dreambox?
Dont worry mate you will be absolutely fine with Linux yes you are correct its more like operating another computer but with a different operating system that is true.
On the other hand probably the most used programs are an FTP, Telnet, and Dreamboxedit or you could try the all in one approach Dream Control centre.
Trust me you will be absolutely fine most of the programs i listed have a frontend program so you really cant go wrong, The only major difference is you do most stuff with FTP through your network USB is hardly used.
If you get a Clone DM800 get an SE this type of linux box still requires flashing through the network cable but the more popular VU+ and Xtrend linux machines are still flashed via USB but all other functions you do through the network.
You have to think of the advantages first off you can share with a linux machine if you want too. They are by far the most supported receiver available today, Channel Lists for Just sly or Multisat every 1-2 weeks fully updated for you and everything in order, Full EPG for Sly and every other sat provider you can think of. You can customise everything on the box you have choices of images the list really does go on and on.
have a look in the dreambox section on here at the images and screenshots and also what plugins you might like there is literally thousands.
Good Luck with your choice.Leave a comment:

nothing wrong with trying one happy camper, i thought about getting one before spider but as did not know which way encryptions were going settled for a cheap box, but its fine at the mo, i have.
good reasons to stick.
1/ spider gets pictures on tv
2/ had mine 10 months, must get some use out of it.
