hi all. perhaps just a tip for newbies. im still learning.
if you are using motorised dish system, i myself always leave a fta channel on top of my chn list for 2 reasons.
1 when moving from sat to sat, chn always appears so you know you are on particular sat before zapping.
2 i have always found fta chns have a good signal strengh so you can always maintain strongest position by nudgeing dish via box.
hope this helps, any more tips, please add to thread to help others an myself.

Anther tip is;
Make a backup of your channel list using DreamSet.

When installing a new image, just send the list back to your box.

You can awys update the channel list on your computer.

perhaps befofe turning (bowl)? dish dandy i think try the skew on you lnb, this has improved signals for me, also dont scimp on this bit of kit (lnb). go for the lowest noise level, mines a technomate gold £10, not expensive.
yea thats a good one bm300, i installed latest s/w in my box this weekend, an always back up chn lists or you are in for a lot of work if you dont.
you can create files in a stick, saves you loading on computer, have your own file for chn data.

Another tip for Dish tuning following up on the tips from toby69:
Remember that there are 4 points to cover when pointing at a satellite for
tuning the dish.

After selecting the weakest transponder;
*Move the dish up and down for max signal.
*Move the dish right and left for max signal.
*Turn the LNBF clockwize and counter clockwize for best polarity and max signal.
*Move the LNBF in and out of it's holder for best focus and max signal.

Then tighten all the bolts on the dish mount and the LNBF mount.

talking of tightening bolts on dish, always tighten as you would do a cylinder head on a motor left to right, up an down, just a quarter of a turn each time, helps to stop dish going out of alinement.

Good points toby69.

Another tip:
Do not use an ofset LNBF on a prime focus dish.
You will get signal loss.
A prime focus dish uses a diffrent feedhorn.
Make sure that you sellect one with an F/D ratio matching your dish or you will get part of the signal reflected from the dish

Just another point seeing as everyone is talking about maximising signal you should never really adjust skew on a motorised dish setup the motor does this for you when turning you should really only adjust for focal point on a steerable dish.

a/b switch

this switch enables you to receive up to 8 different sats (depending on your dish sizes) on multiple dishes with 2 diseqc switches.

drawbacks, have to move to switch a/b, and 2 cables into house.
gain, switching between sats (30west/28east) instant.

Another use of the A/B switch:
If you have 2 satellite receivers, and use one at a time, you can connect the switch in reverse.
You do not need to bring down two cables.
One cable from your diseqc switch to the A/B switch, then a cable from port A to one receiver and from port B to the 2nd receiver.

This saves a lot of time reconnecting F connectors to the back of the receivers.

Have done this with DM800 and DM800se with 8 LNBs.

^^^ I did have the URL of a picture of tie-wraps (cable ties, other terms in different countries) for clarity here, but it doesn't display

Don't cut off the excess length and have it pointing upwards. They'll act as spikes (but flexible ones, so no birds get hurt) that will discourage the birds from landing on the LNB/arm and blocking the signal

will do that tomorrow, keeps cable in place, an birds off, see you got 90cm dish pjmuk, i had one like that before went bigger to get badr4 26e (mbc chns) in english.

Location dependant you can pick 26 east badra4 MBC channels up easily with an 80cm and still figure in a good rain margin, No need to go over the top with say a 1m + dish or higher.

mainly went bigger dish a while ago to get spt1 an 2 (telespazio hungary) with keys on amos2, 4west.
